Speaking after the game Karanka said: "I am happy because it was always going to be a very difficult stadium to win the game.
"Wigan is not in a real position in the table now. I'm happy, but I have the feeling that we could have beaten them if we had played better in the first half.
"It was a difficult game, the conditions were not easy for us, the pitch was not good and we started to play long balls. We weren't strong enough in the 50-50 tackles, we didn't win enough second balls.
"In the second half we were better because we knew what kind of game we would have to play."
