Forest came to the DW Stadium in second place and their attitude on the field suggested a draw would represent a good performance for Stuart Pearce's side.
His assistant Brian Eastick revealed after the game that Forest were indeed happy to go home with a point.
He said: “I think on reflection the result was about right. Particularly in the first half I thought it was a very close game. Wigan played the ball forward more than we thought they would - Stuart and I came to watch them against Ipswich and they played through the pitch a lot.
“But possibly because they haven’t had great results lately Uwe Rosler told them to get the ball forward a bit quicker.
“We created a few chances where we could have nicked it. Michail Antonio at the back post - in the first half and second half - and Jack Hunt got forward and drove a great ball across the box which we very nearly got on the end of.
“You could possibly say we shaded it on chances in the last 20 minutes or so but overall a point was about right.”
The result sees Forest un-moved in the table in second place with a game against Mick McCarthy's Ipswich Town at the weekend.
