West Brom Reaction

Bryan Robson

"This was not good enough from my players and we will be going back to basics.

"They have kidded me because in the first couple of games of the season we started where we left off last season.

"But the last three matches are not acceptable as far as our defending is concerned. The frailty with which we are giving goals away is really poor."

Paul Jewell

"It's a big thing to win away from home. Whatever win you pick up away, it's always a bonus.

"We felt at half-time we could win the game, particularly after finishing the first half quite strongly and scoring our first from open play this season.

"From our point of view both goals were good ones because they were well worked, giving us a big three points."

David Connolly
Not only was the a victory over West Brom sweet, the cherry was well and truely placed on top of the cake with the manner of the victory.

Nathan Ellington was poor throughout until his departure, whilst Jimmy Bullard vanished memories of a defeat here two seasons ago and also the disappointment of Chelsea on the opening day. His last minute strike sent the away fans into ecstasy and euphoria, and didn't he take it well!?!

I was a little disappointed with the WBA goal. It was a combination f bad defending from the Latics, and also a foul by Darren Carter on goalkeeper Mike Pollitt as he looked to punch clear.

Connolly's goal was something special. As the ball fell to Francis in midfield, the bright striker started his run early, the ball was inch perfect and Connolly's pace carried him past Gaardsoe before he fired home.

The relatively short trip home seemed even shorter with the thought of being tied on points with a team know as Arsenal. 36 more to go.
