Speaking after seeing his side defeat the Latics 2-0, Allardyce said: "There's no doubt that if you can win a game in the Premier League and not be playing your best, it's a measure of your determination and capabilities when things aren't quite going your way. We stayed in the game until we got the opportunity to finish them off, which is exactly what we did.
"It ended up being a far more difficult game than Manchester United was on Wednesday, but I think that's because of the effort by the players on Wednesday; it took its toll a little bit today. I thought we looked fatigued going into the last half-an-hour of the game, didn't pass the ball very well and made life very difficult for ourselves.
"But in all fairness, the game's about two things - what you do with the ball and how good you are when you haven't got it. When we didn't have it - which was for long periods - we were excellent, defensively, today. Very resilient and very dogged. Our quality of finishing has won us the game 2-0 in the end and we're absolutely delighted to be on 42 points with four games to play."
The Hammers are all but mathematically safe in the Premier League whilst the Latics have a lot to do to secure safety for a 9th year in the Premier League.
