Last updated : 29 July 2007 By Paul Farrington
For those who are unaware, I have challenged myself to run the BUPA Greath North Run in September and attain a time of under two hours.

Here is the latest training update.

Lance Armstrong: Inspiring
Firstly, I have to admit that taking a two week holiday in Kos did not help the preparations for the race too much.

I spent most of those two weeks eating the wrong foods and enjoying the sun too much. Although I did manage to read both of Lance Armstrong's books whilst away, inspiring me to get off my backside and go for a little exercise!

Thus, I hired a mountain bike for most of the holiday went for a good few rides.

In particular, there was a 650m hill on the island that for some reason seemed like a good idea to climb up late one hot afternoon.

Despite being particularly hot, and the hill quite steep, it was worth the ride just to see the amused faces of the locals, and tourists, at the top of the hill once there.

All I can say is that there were no other cyclists at the summit of that minor mound, and just a few startled looks as to why anyone would do that whilst on holiday.

I proceeded to climb the hill again, to get some particlarly fine olive oil that wasn't available anywhere else on the island.

All in the name of a good cause.

Since arriving back in England, I have managed to get to the gym about six times a week and have been alternating between the bikes and treadmills.

Without goin into too much boring detail, I can now manage about 250 watts on the bike for an hour, and just last week, managed an 8 mile run in just shy of one hour.

All that is left between now and September is to raise the time stakes to the two hours that it is likely to take to run the 13.1 miles in Newcastle.

And finally, if you feel you want to sponsor me, and help raise money for Breast Cancer Care, then please visit my just giving page by clicking here.

All donations will be gratefully received both by myself, my chosen charity, and doubtless all the people who your money can help.

Thank you very much for reading, I have quite an arduous training programme ahead for the next two months!

I'll try to keep everyone updated!
