With Andre Villas-Boas brought in as the next bright young thing by Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich, Latics fans were quetly admiring their own talented manager.
Roberto Martinez offered Villas-Boas a tactical masterclass on Saturday evening as he stifled the Chelsea team whilst offering enough from his own players to deserve all three points.
Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba, Ashley Cole, and John Terry were all made to look like hte 30-somethings they are by a youthful, determined, and talented Wigan Athletic team.
The Latics were set up to stifle Chelsea and stop them playing. For all the possession the Londerer's achieved, they had little sight of Ali Al-Habsi and his goal.
Even at 1-0 down the game plan remainded the same and thankfully the Latics got their just rewards as Gomez tapped in with just minutes to go.
The momentum was with the Latics. Chelsea were on the ropes. Terry, Lampard and co... were out on their feet. Moses, McCarthy, Diame, Di Santo, and Rodallega all pured forward in search of a winner.
Unfortunately it wasn't to be and the Latics had to make do with a point. Not a bad result against Chelsea as the point keeps us within touching distance of safety.
Both Blackburn and Bolton look dead and burried, but there is plenty of life in our Wigan Athletic team.
Sunderland, Wolves, Everton, and QPR are all stuttering about the drop zone and another shock against Liverpool on Wednesday could see us move out of the bottom three.
The result against Chelsea is worth more than a point.
Just as when we couldn't buy a win a little over a month ago and confidence was on the floor. We now have a team brimming with desire, confidence, talent, and youth.
Make no mistake, Kenny Dalgleish and his Liverpool team will not be looking forward to their trip to the DW Stadium and we can take all three points.
The crowd were terrific against Chelsea with all three home stands rocking and in full voice. More of the same against Liverpool is just what the doctor ordered and will hopefully help bring us an early Christmas present of three points.
