Chairman Dave Whelan was delighted with the sales and he said: "People have always questioned our supporter base, but I was confident the interest in the town was there if we could provide top-flight football.
"The chance for Wigan folk to watch their team take on the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool is a dream come true and I'm delighted so many are signing up for the season."
