The former Everton youngster and League One Player of the Season has been subject to interest from the Latics and Warburton is challenging the club to meet the players valuation.
Warburton told London24 that the only effect of the Latics interest so far is to unsettle the player and the club need to meet his valuation before any further action.
“I’ve been reading that we’ve lost the plot on Adam Forshaw but we’ve got to defend our corner," said Warburton. “We’ll look after our own. He has a long term contract at the club.
“My frustration was the fact that he’s the League One player of the year, highly sought after, and if you want the player to come you make the right bid.
“If a house is worth a million, don’t bid £300,000. The only affect at the moment is to unsettle the player. We’ve sent him away to get his head straight.
“If that situation develops over the next two or three days then so be it. “My frustration is if a club want a player to put in a genuine bid and don’t try and unsettle a player.
“The bid came in and other clubs realised the possibility. We’re not going to bend over and let an asset go. If he leaves, we wish him well. He’ll leave on our terms, not on anyone else’s.”
