It was Arsenal boss Wenger who first alerted Bruce to Palacios and Bruce is grateful for that. He said: "In the summer I got a call from Arsene Wenger because he knew I was after a midfield player.
"He told me he'd had a kid from Honduras on trial at Arsenal, and would I be interested in looking at him? Wilson came to Birmingham, trained with us, and that was that. We kept hold of him on loan.
"I couldn't believe my luck when Birmimgham didn't take up the option to extend his loan. His agent phoned up and told me he was on his way back to Honduras, so we decided to dive in, and for £1m at the age of 22, he will be a very good player, believe you me.
"At Derby I thought he was terrific considering it was his debut. Playing on the left isn't his best position, but he's a talented footballer. Wilson will give us something a bit different. He can play in the centre of midfield, on the right or just off the front."
On view of his debut for the Latics Palacios is clearly talented in possession but will need to add to his defensive game after he was caught out of position on a few occasions.
Certainly at 22, he is the right age to learn for the future and will hopefully have a long and prosperous career at the club.
Meanwhile, the weekend's goal hero Antoine Sibierski has revealed how he turned down a move back to France with Lille, his first ever club.
Sibierski said: "Lille contacted me three weeks ago to ask me if I wanted to get back to France. I told them 'no' straight away, I don't want to go back to France. My family are happy living in Manchester and I'm very happy at Wigan."
