Chimbonda himself added: "I want to be a favourite with the Wigan fans. To get the supporters on your side is a big help and that's happened for me so far.
"It's important to settle in when you come to a new club from a different country and I have done that. There is a lot stronger bond and loyalty between the English supporters and players.
"The fans here cheer for you whether you are winning, losing or drawing. In France when I was with Bastia, the fans are a lot more fickle and will boo you a lot quicker.
"It's one of the reasons I turned down Marseille in the summer and came to England. However, as soon as September came I knew I would have to start wearing gloves. When it gets even colder I'll be putting two pairs on.
"I'm going to be putting a hat on as well in training. I can't believe that some people find this weather warm."
