Connolly scored the Latics equaliser - his debut goal - on 40 minutes before Jimmy Bullard popped up with a last minute winner.

The Irish international striker told the club's official website:"It's great to get off the mark so early, but to honest the result itself gave me more pleasure.

"When you're a striker you know there's pressure to get goals and I'm no different, I love to score.

"It was a great ball from Damien (Francis) to put me through and I've helped it over the keep and in. It was an important time to score because it would have been harsh on us to go in behind at the break.

"I thought second half we created enough chances to get another one, I had a header myself that was only just wide. When Jimmy (Bullard) popped up at the end it was just brilliant, a perfect way to win a game.

"I felt I settled into the side really well and me and Jason (Roberts) clicked straight away. We're different types of players and we compliment each other."
