The former Dutch under 21 international has fallen out of favour at the DW Stadium with two years of annonymous performances. However following the recent injuries to Tom Cleverley and Victor Moses, and the drop in form of Jordi Gomez, de Ridder has been given a second chance.
Speaking after the game with Hull City, Latics boss Roberto Martinez said: "It's been difficult for Daniel. He's had a couple of trial periods with other clubs but in the last few weeks he's really worked hard in training and he deserved the opportunity.
"On the ball he worked hard, he always looked a threat and he's given himself a good opportunity to carry on helping the team from now until the end of the season."
