Speaking to the club's official website about di Santo's substitution and Latics boss Roberto Martinez revealed the decision to withdraw the striker was more a precaution than anything else.
Di Santo has played a large number of intense games over the past ffew weeks and these will have had an effect on his body.
The Latics manager said: "Franco felt his calf midway through the first half and you can understand that feeling after the demands on him and the rest of the team recently.
"We had a few knocks and bruises going into the game and unfortunately Franco wasn't able to continue, so we'll asses his situation over the next few days and see if he can be ready for next week."
Hopefully the young Argentine striker will be fit and raring to go for the fixture with Newcastle United next weekend.
