Andreas Johansson
The fee is undisclosed but it is believed to be £450,000 upfront with a further £300,000 upon the Latics' promotion to the Premiership.

Johansson is an attacking midfielder, he scored 11 goals in 22 games for Djurgarden in the Swedish top flight.

He also has 12 international caps to his name and made his debut against Latvia. He has now returned to Sweden until Tuesday morning when he will be unveiled at the JJB Stadium and will wear shirt number 8.

Manager, Paul Jewell said: "We're delighted to have brought Andreas in and I believe he will be a fine signing for us. We have watched him on several occasions and been very impressed and therefore are really pleased to have secured his signature.

"He's a forward thinking midfield player who likes to get into the box and go for goal and I think he'll prove a good signing for us. His record in Swedish football is excellent and hopefully he can bring that form to this country. His internationals appearances speak for themselves though and I don't have any worries about him being able to settle in this country. We've tracked him for a long time and have liked what we've seen and therefore we're really pleased that the deal has gone through.

"We will assess his fitness in training next week before deciding whether he will be available straight away but he certainly looks in good shape and I look forward to seeing how he settles in here. I do not imagine there will be any problems and hopefully he will be ready for action in the very near future."

Meanwhile Johansson, 26, added: "It's always been one of my ambitions to play in English football and I'm very grateful that Wigan have given me this chance. I do not know a lot about the club but I have been very impressed by the facilities and obviously I know that the team are doing well this season. I am hoping that I will bring something diffferent to the team and play my part as we look to help the club make the jump up into the Premier League."
