Kone is believed to have moved for a fee in the region of £2.7 million pounds and consulted none other than Manchester City's Yaya Toure and brother Kolo Toure before making his decision.
The Toure brothers and Kone are international team-mates for the Ivory Coast.
Speaking to the Wigan Evening Post, Kone said: “As soon as I knew about Wigan’s renewed interest, I spoke to them and they both told me to sign as quickly as I could.
“They told me it is a great league to play in and I would do very well over here. I was already excited about the possibility of coming over, and they just confirmed what I already felt.”

Kone is now expected to be pushing for a place in the squad for this weekend's season opener agaisnt Chelsea at the DW Stadium.
