Rovers' chief executive John Williams skipped yesterday's Premier League chairmen meeting to continue the search for reinforcements with a formal bid lodged last night with the Third Division club for their highly-rated forward.
Stead has scored 18 times this season to help propel Huddersfield into the play-off places.
The 23-year-old Australian midfielder Mark Bresciano has rejected the chance of a move to Ewood Park in preference to remaining at Parma, which could be bad news for Latics fans.
Jewell said that the player he was looking at had been told that his club still wanted him, however the situation may change if they brought someone in in his place.
With Rovers failing to add Bresciano to their squad, Alan Mahon (who is rumoured to be the target) would be staying put at Ewood Park.
Meanwhile, Peterborough have had an offer accepted by the South Korean club Busan Icons for Jamie Cureton. The former Bristol Rovers and Reading striker has been offered a 2-year contract.
