Wigan Athletic have been drawn away to fellow League One side Crewe Alexandra in the second round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.
After having a bye in the first round, Latics were ball number eight for the round two draw.
Gary Caldwell's side could have had a home or away tie against Port Vale, Blackpool, Bury, Morecambe, Fleetwood Town or Shrewsbury Town instead of Crewe.
At this stage of the competition, draws are made between sides in the same region. For example, Wigan were in the North West pot.
The match will be played at the Alexandra Stadium the week commencing Monday 5th October.
