Martinez expects quiet deadline day

The evening will see the bi-annual scramble and panic buying that so often results in larges swathes of money being wasted in frantic last minute purchases.

The Latics however are expecting a quiet transfer window on the incoming front with manager Roberto Martinez saying he is happy with his current crop of players.

The Spaniard told the Wigan Evening Post: “On the whole, I’m really pleased with the players we’ve got, but I wouldn’t be doing my job properly if I didn’t keep my eyes open – because sometimes in the last 48 hours you get opportunities you can’t turn down.

“It will be daft not to keep your eyes open because, as has happened in the last day or two, sometimes there are opportunities.

“But the truth is we’ve done all of our work earlier in the window, and we tried to bring the players that we wanted to bring really early so we could start the season.”

Martinez is refusing to be tempted to splash the £9 million received this week from Chelsea from the sale of Victor Moses.
