The Spaniard recouped £9.5 million for French international Charles N'Zogbia and has spent only £3 million on the additions of Ali Al-Habsi from neighbours Bolton.
David Jones has arrived on a free transfer from Wolves in what looks to be another excellent piece of buisness by Martinez.
However with Mauro Boselli moving back to Estudiantes on loan it would appear that his Wigan Athletic career is over and the 26 year old is an expensive mistake for the Latics boss.
Speaking about the possiblity of additions to the squad over the coming month, Martinez told the Wigan Evening Post: “As everyone knows we have lost Charlie (N’Zogbia), Tom (Cleverley) and Mauro (Boselli), and that means we are light in numbers.
“Obviously we need to replace them, and we are going to work as hard as we can over the next three weeks to make sure we bring the right characters into the club.
“But to be talking about new signings now is completely wrong – we need to be talking about the group of players we already have here that we are constantly trying to help.”
Amongst those names linked with the club is Shaun Wright-Phillips presently out of favour at Manchester City. The 29 year old winger has been linked with a loan move to the DW Stadium in a bid to re-ignite his England career and he could well flurish under Martinez.
