Speaking to the club's official website about the game, Martinez said: "It's a unique opportunity for us.

"In these situations to be at home is a great advantage and now it is down to us to approach the game in the right manner and create the right atmosphere for the players to compete against a very talented Swansea side.

"We saw against Preston that when you're playing against a Championship side they really raise their game, and in a one-off situation like this it can make a big difference.

"Technically Swansea are a very talented group. They keep the ball well and will make it very hard for us.

"You don't get many chances to progress to the Quarter Finals of a cup competition so it's a great occasion for all involved."

Martinez also revealed that he had a fantastic time with the Welsh club, both as a player and a manager.

"I shared many great memories and emotions as a player, captain and manager at Swansea," added the Latics boss.

"But games are about players, not managers and I'm sure the actions between the two clubs in recent years will not stop those on the pitch enjoying the occasion.

"It was one of those situations that was always going to happen. But it will be an entertaining match with two teams who want to play football in the right way and want to entertain the crowd."

It is expected that the Latics will make a number of changes from the side that drew with Bolton Wanderer's in the Premier League on Saturday.

England under 21 international duo, Tom Cleverley and Victor Moses are expected to come into the side, whilst Argentinian international striker Mauro Boselli is also expected to start the match.
