McMillan reluctantly retires

Signed in March 2001, McMillan played just 103 appearances in a six year career at Latics. He managed just two Premiership appearances against Charlton away and Fulham at home, before injury struck again.

The Edinburgh born left-back went to world-renowned surgeon Mr Steadman in Colorado, who has treated the likes of Alan Shearer, Michael Owen and Ruud Van Nistelrooy after his knee injury reoccured during Wigan's Carling Cup semi-final first leg tie with Arsenal.

Despite making significant progress, it wasn't deemed enough and McMillan has had to call it a day.

McMillan told the official website: "I'd just like to thank everyone at the club for the way they have cared for me over the past year, and in times gone by. The club have been fantastic to me, absolutely brilliant, and they couldn't have been more supportive.

"I'm proud to have played my part in helping the club go from the Second Division to the Premiership, The highlight has to be the game against Reading in which we clinched promotion, it was a pressure game but we played really well.

"I can say I've played in the Premiership with Wigan, even if it was only for a couple of games".

Wiganer.net and all its regular visitors and messageboard users wish McMillan all the best in his future endeavours.
