"He conducts himself well in training and is very good working with the players as a group. There was a definite opportunity to stay at Birmingham, but I also saw the opportunity to come and work with Steve Bruce at Wigan. I felt my debut on Saturday went very well, even though I didn't have too much time to train here beforehand.
"My team-mates have received me extremely well, on and off the pitch, and that helped me a great deal. The objective at the moment is for me to try to help Wigan stay in the Premier League - that is my main focus. If that is achieved, in the future the aim has to be to fight our way into a higher position."
Palacios spent a period on trial with Arsenal but with the volume of midfielders at the Emirates, he was allowed to move on. It was without haste that Wenger recommended the Honduran international to Steve Bruce.
Palacios added: "I enjoyed it at Arsenal. The club received me well and I was training with their top players. Unfortunately, they already had a lot of midfield players, so Wenger contacted Birmingham and introduced them to me.
"It has already been a great experience playing in the Premier League. I used to watch English matches on the television in Honduras, and I became aware of Wigan in the last couple of years. "But I wasn't aware that one day I would come here."
Transfer Rumours
Meantime, Reading forward Leroy Lita is being linked with a move to the club. The England under 21 international has become frustrated at the lack of first team opportunities at the Madjeski Stadium.
Olivier Kapo is another name being linked. A £3 million transfer is rumoured with the midfielder currently playing for Bruce's former club Birmingham.
Left back Erik Edman is another name being attached to the club as the transfer window starts to gather pace. The Rennes and Sweden full back is out of contract in the summer and so the French club may well cash in.
And finally, Palacios' Honduran colleague Maynor Figueroa is said to be on the verge of completing a £500,000 move to the Latics after a trial period at the club. He was seen watching the club defeat Derby at the weekend.
Looking outwards, and both Paul Scharner and Emmerson Boyce are being linked with moves to Fulham and Derby respectively. There is little susbance at the moment to either of these transfers.
