Race for the Premiership: The run-in
Predictions
Sunderland
The Black Cats are the form side at the moment. Mick McCarthy's side have picked up maximum points from their last six games. They have lost two of their last 6 on their travels however, and this will give hope to Jewell's men ahead of Tuesday clash.
All is not as rosey as it appears for McCarthy's side. They may well be five points clear but have to face tough trips to Ipswich and ourselves before the end of the season.
A tough trip to West Ham on the 29th of April also looms and all Latics fans now know what the Hammers are capable of.
Could it be an omen that Brian Deane has been brought into the Stadium of Light?
Wiganer.net predicts another 12 points for the Black Cats from their remaining games and a final total of 93 points. Enough for them to be crowned Champions.
Wigan
Indifferent form recently has seen a few doubts creep into the minds of many fans. Ten points from the last six games is decent form, but it will not be enough to take the Latics into the Premiership.
Away form is promising however, with the Latics having picked up 13 points from a possible 18 on their travels.
With tough trips to Preston, Leicester and Cardiff to come, this away form could help the Latics over the line.
One more booking for striker Jason Roberts would be catastrophic. The front man would hit ten bookings for the season and would miss two games should he pick up another yellow.
Tuesday's game with Sunderland is crucial. A win here will knock Sunderland a little, but the result will stun Ipswich who are likely to beat Rotherham.
The Tractor boys would still have to face Sunderland and may lose confidence in their ability to overtake Wigan, should the Latics gain maximum points against the Black Cats.
A defeat or draw on Tuesday for the Latics would see Ipswich overtake them on points. Joe Royle's men face Rotherham at home and should manage to take all three points from that fixture.
Wiganer.net prediction: 12 points from the remaining games, giving the Latics a final total of 88 points. Goal difference will see the Latics promoted
Ipswich Town
It was not too long ago that Ipswich were sitting pretty at the top of the pirch. A bad run of form however has seen them sink into the playoffs.
The Tractor Boys have pulled the gap back though, and are now level on points with the Latics.
Tough trips to Wolves and Leeds still loom for Royle's men as does the clash with Sunderland on the 17th April.
As for Ipswich's form, they have struggled like the Latics recently picking up 10 points from their last six. Away form has been a problem, three draws and a defeat from their last six away games.
As for a prediction. I would have to go for Ipswich to get 12 points from their last six games, leaving the Tractor Boys on 88 points with the Latics. However, having scored more goals than Ipswich, the Latics would take promotion behind champions Sunderland.
1. Sunderland 93pts - Champions
2. Wigan 88pts +GD - Promoted
3. Ipswich 88pts - Playoffs
Fingers Crossed!
