Latics boss Roberto Martinez had expected the Columbian to be fit to face Albion at the weekend but the injury has taken rodallega longer than expected to recover from.
Speaking to the Wigan Evening Post about the injury, Martinez said: “Hugo’s had a scan and we hope to have clear idea over the next day or two whether he has a chance of playing against Liverpool next weekend.
“The injury is far worse than we first thought, because we initially expected him to have been okay for West Brom.
“That obviously wasn’t the case, but we’re hoping it’s not a serious problem because we need Hugo at his best for the rest of the season.”
The injury could well explain why Rodallega was so quiet in the draw with Norwich a little over a week ago.
The Latics all time leading goal scorer in the Premier League has so far managed just two this season and tha lack of contribution from Rodallega is a big reason why the club find themselves at the wrong end of the table.
