The combative midfielder is alsways going to fall foul of referees, especially given his tough tackling approach to the game. However Thomas can feel a little hard done by as his yellow card on Saturday appeared to be for a perfectly good tackle.
Speaking to the Wigan Observer, Thomas said: "I am sorry to be missing the Stoke game, but I have complete faith that whoever comes in to replace me will be able to do the job.
"I don't like to talk about refereeing decisions and the bookings I have received, but I felt the yellow card on Saturday was a bit soft. The problem for me is that I now have to miss the game next week, which is a big one for us.
"Every player wants to play in every match, and they work hard during the week to be able to play every week. But I have to sit this one out – and that's very frustrating for me.
"Thankfully we have some big games coming up straight afterwards, and I have to keep working hard on the training ground and make sure I am ready to play in the games after Stoke."
Thomas has adapted to life in the Premiership like the proverbial duck to water, stepping into the breach left by Lee cattermole with ease. The 24 year old has been a key player for Martinez this season and he will be sorely missed at the Britannia this weekend.
It is unclear who will take his place, with Paul Scharner the front runner to drop back from his attacking position. The game could well be too rough for Jordi Gomez with Stoke's notorious aerial threat from set pieces.
