The 77 year old has lost none of his passion for life and his ambition remains to see the Latics return to the top flight.
Speaking in this week's Wigan Observer, chief executive Jonathan Jackson said: "The chairman is very resillient. He takes setbacks in his stride and it makes him want to double his efforts to get back in the Premier League.
"That's where he wants this football club to be and as we've seen in the past, generally where he wants to get to he suceeds in that.
"I think the fans can look forward to an exciting season next year with the right man at the helm, and with a fully committed owner who wants to see us back in the Premier League."
