The 25 year old Egyptian suffered a knock in the 1-0 win over Botlon at the Reebok, and manager Steve Bruce does not want to take any risks with his number one goal scorer.
Emile Heskey meanwhile is out with the hamstring injury that forced him off against Bolton, and Chris Kirkland is out after he suffered a back injury before the Bolton game.
As a result, Steve Bruce will have to shuffle his pack. He told the club's official website: "This game will give me an opportunity to give some of the players that haven't featured too much to play and show what they can do.
"I would love to win something and the cup games are a realistic chance of doing that so I will still be putting out a strong side even if I do change things about a little bit.
"We would have liked the draw to be a little kinder to us than a long away trip to London against another premier league team but we are full of confidence and let's see what we can do."
The game is live on Setanta Sports 1 tonight from 19.30 with kick off at 20.00.
