The North West derby (kick-off 1pm) is set to draw a 20,000 crowd to the JJB Stadium and Jewell wants Latics to be at their Sunday best.
A haul of 10 points from the last 12 on offer has seen the club rise to ninth in the Premiership, and a victory over Wanderers would launch the top-flight
newcomers further into orbit.
But Jewell knows Latics will have their work cut out against third-placed Bolton who have been beaten only once in the league this season.
He told the Evening Post: "We have to make sure we don't get too carried away with the good start we've made and realise the hard work is ahead of us.
"We've 32 more games left which is a long time, and while we're delighted to have 10 points on the board, we can't rest on our laurels.
"It was a great result at Everton last week but that's finished, and we have to concentrate everything on Bolton.
"This is a big derby game and they have just come back from playing in Europe which is a testament to how far Sam Allardyce has taken them.
"They set an example to us all, although as well as Bolton have done, our own club needs a pat on the back too because we've made massive strides over the last four or five years."
The attendance will be the biggest ever for a match between Latics and Bolton, in stark contrast to their last meeting in April 1993 which saw just 5,408 fans at Springfield Park.
Fans must buy their tickets before 2pm tomorrow as no tickets are on sale on the day of the game.
Bolton, who progressed in the UEFA Cup last night after a 2-1 win at Bulgarians Lokomotiv Plovdid, are expecting a following of just under 4,000 to make the short trip along the M61.
Jewell had no injury worries ahead of training today and he's expected to keep faith with the side which started at Everton.
That will mean Henri Camara starting alongside Jason Roberts in attack, with John Filan again preferred in goal to Mike Pollitt.
Collecting a positive result on Sunday would certainly help Latics enjoy their 13-day break from action, with internationals taking centre stage next week.
Exploited
Jewell said: "Bolton have come a long way in a short space of time under Sam's great management.
"Gradually they have got better and better, and that has allowed them to get better players and better facilities.
"They've gone down the road of short-term signings and exploited the foreign market to its maximum, as well as bringing in very experienced players to help the younger ones.
"I've tried to get experience here with Arjan de Zeeuw and Stephane Henchoz, players who can both use their knowledge and pass it on.
"One thing they won't be doing is looking around and thinking 'this is Old Trafford, this is Anfield', as they have seen it, been there and done it.
"De Zeeuw and Henchoz have started the season exceptionally well together, as have the full-backs Pascal Chimbonda and Leighton Baines."
At the other end of the pitch, Jewell would like to see one or two more goals, although he is happy with the return so far.
He said: "Everything in this division is more difficult, but the hardest thing is scoring.
"We have created quite a few chances which is pleasing, it's just that we need to put a few more of them away.
"It would be nice if the strikers could score the goals, but equally it was good to see Damien Francis get off the mark last week, and I'm sure we will start scoring more."
Newcastle fans have already snapped up their 5,000 ticket allocation for their visit to the JJB on Saturday, October 15.
