The Latics boss is refusing to get carried away by the media hysteria surrounding his side's impressive start to life in the top flight.
And he has urged the squad to take a reality check too as they prepare for Michael Owen, Alan Shearer and Co at the JJB Stadium on Saturday.
Jewell said: "We have just got to be careful we don't get too carried away with all the press reports and the nice things people are saying about us.
"It's very nice, but we aren't used to that.
"We have to make sure we keep our feet firmly on the floor and go about the job the way we have done for every game bar one so far this year.
"We have only had seven matches, so there is a million miles to go yet.
"I'm not saying we aren't pleased with our progress. But we have got to continue, we can't afford to take our foot off the gas.
"That showed against Charlton. If you don't perform, or are not 100 per cent up for it for whatever reason, then you won't win a game at this level.
"Of course you can't play well all the time. But you have to be 100 per cent focused. If not then you will lose games."
Wigan have been the surprise packages this term, winning four and drawing one of their seven Premiership matches.
They went desperately close to holding champions Chelsea in the opening game.
And, sitting up in eighth spot – above sides such as Liverpool and Newcastle – they have earned some glowing tributes in the past two months.
But, just in case his players start getting too big for their boots, Jewell reminded them today of the size of the task facing them on Saturday.
"Every game is a big game in the Premiership, but Newcastle at home is a great one for the Wigan public to see," he said. "Their team is full of good players.
"It is on TV and I hope it will be a sell-out. I think the atmosphere will be smashing.
"People might say we are favourites because of our league position and the fact we are at home.
"On paper there is only one team who should be favourites. But it is not played on paper is it?"
Jewell is already predicting Chelsea will be champions again this time – and the season is not even a quarter of the way through.
Having opened up a nine-point gap already, Jose Mourinho's side look untouchable.
"I think it is almost over already," said Jewell. "I can't see anyone catching Chelsea.
"People used to say it was bad for the game when Liverpool were dominating in the eighties, or in the nineties when Manchester United and Arsenal were winning the title year after year.
"I know they (Chelsea) have got money to spend. But at the end of the day, Liverpool, Arsenal, Newcastle, Manchester United are all big clubs and they could still put a run
together.
"But I still think the title is Chelsea's. I won't say it's over, but I think everyone else is almost playing for second place."
Two more Latics games have been selected for television meaning six of the club's next nine Premiership fixtures are live on the box.
Sky have chosen the trips to Liverpool (Saturday, December 3) and to Manchester United (Wednesday, December 14) for satellite broadcast.
The Anfield game will now kick off at 12.45pm and the Old Trafford match at 8pm.
