Second division high-flyers Wigan came down to earth with a bump as they were bundled out of the LDV Vans trophy by Conference side Doncaster at the JJB Stadium.

A strong Wigan outfit couldn't match the eagerness and determination of their non-league opponents as they crashed to their first defeat in 17 games and they can have no complaints whatsoever.

The goal that settled matters came on 67 minutes when Mark Albrighton got on the end of a Gareth Owen free-kick to flick the ball past veteran Latics debutant keeper Dave Beasant.

The visitors were well worth their win and restricted the home side to long shots and half chances, the best of which was a Nathan Ellington 25-yarder that came back off the bar
