The last unbeaten run in England came to an end at the JJB Stadium as Championship leaders Wigan Athletic were surprisingly but deservedly beaten 2-0 by an eager Plymouth Argyle outfit.
A goal in each half from Paul Wotton and substitute Stev'e Crawford ended the Latics' 17-match unbeaten run that had taken them six points clear at the top of the league table and the home side could have a few complaints.
The visitors were the more lively outfit throughout and the tactical plan of stifling Wigan's creativity in midfield worked a treat.
After an early surge when Jason Roberts and David Graham both went close to giving the home side the lead, Paul Jewell's side created few openings and sorely missed the incisive presence of striker Nathan Ellington, who was sidelined by injury.
It was no surprise when the Pilgrims took the lead with their first attempt on goal, six minutes before half-time.
Wigan substitute Steve McMillan was harshly penalised for a foul just outside the penalty area.
Wotton hammered in the resulting free-kick and a deflection off Leighton Baines took it past the wrong-footed John Filan.
The visitors could have added a second three minutes later, but David Friio's shot came back off the post and the same player shot wide 11 minutes into the second half when Wigan were caught on the break.
The home side became more disjointed as the game progressed and Plymouth tied up the three points after 68 minutes when Ian Breckin's back pass let in Crawford and he rounded Filan before calming slotting the ball home.
There was no way back for Wigan as the Manager of the Month curse struck once again and the country's last unbeaten record fell.
